What’s Up With Unconditional Love?

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Samantha Stevens To tell you the truth, I’m a little disillusioned with the term unconditional love, lately. It’s just not “natural”. The phrase has been used for decades, by psychologists, therapists, A.A. types and the overall spiritually minded to describe how one should cope with impossible behavior.” The original principle behind the concept, was to help the person who is being abused accept the circumstances and not have to live in a perpetual state of resentment towards their partner. You, as thecodependent (ie the one who is always hurt) is supposed to see your partner as “sick” and not blame him or her for their actions. You’re supposed to love and care for the adulterer, batterer, gambler, manic depressive or alcoholic the same way you would someone who has the flu. Husband comes home drunk? Sober him up with cups of black coffee and a dose of your eternally burning, unconditional love. Boyfriend unfaithful? That’s O.k., because you have unconditional love for him that will last for an eternity. Girlfriends rack up your credit cards again with her compulsive shopping? You’ll take care of the bills because you’re love for her is undying and unconditional and you’ve told yourself “”I’ll always love her no matter what ….” Those of us who have been there know that we can only comfort ourselves with the concept of unconditional love for so long until the relationship becomes too expensive, emotionally, socially and financially. This is often more serious then the kind of consequences we pay when someone is sick with “the flu.” Plus lately, after talking to many clients, many of whom are still paying in one way or another for the irresponsible behavior of a full grown adult, I am starting to conclude that when the person with the “ism” or “recently diagnosed personality disorder” is on to us then out comes the term unconditional love. If we say no or object to the behavior, he or she can always turn around and go “but I thought you said your love was me wasunconditional!!!” This puts us on the defense because it implies that we are the ones who are unloving and unlovable. I think the appropriate response is “well then why don’t you go out and find someone who will agree to co-sign your B.S.!!’” If they’re A.A. trained they’ll probably snap back with “that’s what you get for having expectations or preferences of me…you know I’m sick!” I think love is conditional. One of those conditions is “trust.” If you have unconditional love for someone, it is implicit you don’t trust them, especially if you’ve condemned yourself to a lifetime of loving him or her “no matter what.” Love is a natural thing, like a flower, that one should expect to bloom and its o.k. to be disappointed if it doesn’t. The nature of love is to grow, compound and multiply and not destroy. The next time you fall in love, put terms and conditions on it and demand a 200% return on your investment. It’s your precious energy! Samantha Steven’s articles have been published in many high-standing newspapers and she has published several books. The Key To My Success In Losing Weight (82 lbs. / 37 kg. lost in 6 months)

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Heidrun Bergdottir During the time I have been loosing weight, I have wondered how do I do it? How am I able to stick with the portions of food I am supposed to eat? Why am I able to avoid eating sweets now? Why have I gained such control over my appetite and cravings for foods? How am I able to persist in every aspect of the diet? Why can I achieve this now, when I couldnt gain any control of my diet before? I think the reasons are many, and some arent very obvious but have had a major affect on my success. I think that the least of it are physical factors, and I am certain that most of it lies in my mind. My experience tells me that weight loss is not solely a physical thing. To be able to achieve goal weight and keep it has much more to do with the mentality and values towards food that you have or evolve during the weight loss process. The thing that was crucial for me in the beginning of my emotional success in life, is that I acknowledged that it was my responsibility to do something about the things that were negative in my life. Before I started the weight loss process I had fought many demons, especially the addictions I had evolved towards many things. I had mental problems that I also won over so the weight was/is the only major thing left in my life make-over. The reason for my very serious obesity (400+ lbs / 183 kg, - I am 55 / 165 cm) was that very early in life, in my childhood, I had evolved addiction to food and in fact that addiction got to be very similar to my later-in-life substance abuse. Whenever I felt bad or depressed I used to eat and eat and eat, that caused me to gain more weight that made me feel worse and depressed and so on and so forth. I simply got stuck in a habit, a vicious circle I couldnt get out of, even when I started to feel better emotionally, my out of control food habits continued, making me gaining all that excess weight. Finally I got fed up with this situation. I was so overweight that people close to me feared for my life. In fact I think I was only 25-50 lbs from getting to the point where I couldnt live a normal life. I was sick and tired of my eating habits, I even didnt like the junk-food anymore but I kept stuffing it in my mouth. Luckily I met the right people at the right time saying all the right things, so I got into a food-program that I have been on ever since (I have lost 82 lbs / 37 kg in 6 months). What I realized very early on in my weight loss process was that I had to change my attitude to food. I had to train my mind to like the healthy food. I had to stop linking sweets and junk food to emotions. I think many of you recognize this; you see f. ex. a chocolate bar and automatically you think “Wow, if I eat that chocolate, it will make me feel so good, the taste of chocolate will make me feel nice all over”. When you think like that, you are linking happy emotions to a chocolate, so in fact you are training your mind to crave chocolate, because it links happiness to the experience of eating chocolate. The fact is: Food is food, taste is taste and food really doesnt have small molecules of “happy-atoms” lodged in it, it is all in your mind. And believe it or not, you are able to control your own mind and feelings! What I started to do to stop this pattern of thought towards junk food was to be grateful for every piece of healthy food that I ate. I simply repeated to myself every time I ate my meals “mmm, I am so lucky to be able to eat this great tasting food, it makes me feel so much better, it makes me loose weight, it makes me reach all my goals, it makes me feel so good about myself, it gives me self confidence etc.”. Then every time I had cravings for sweets and junk food, I started a thought process where I debated with myself why it would hurt me to give in for the craving. An example of this thinking could be something like this: Is it really worth it to throw away everything I have worked for, to lose the belief in myself, to feel out of control, guilty, a loser, failure, just to have the taste of ice cream in my mouth for few minutes? Is the taste of ice cream more important then my success in life? Is the taste of ice cream more important then my health? Is the taste of ice cream more important then feeling good in my own skin? Is the taste of ice cream worth having people stare at my fat ass every time I go out in public? Is the taste of ice cream in my mouth for a few minutes worth having people point at me and making fun of me? Is the taste of ice cream more important then gaining confidence and gratification with every pound I lose? Is the taste of ice cream good enough to risk my own health and ultimately my own life? Wouldnt it be better to have a piece of fruit instead, they taste just as great and they dont ruin my life either. After some time this mentality had become automatic and it really worked! Now I love my healthy food, and believe or not, sweets, cakes and junk food dont move me a bit any more. I can look over a whole table filled with sweets and cakes and the feeling it gives me is similar to look at a flower decoration, it simply doesnt move me at all, because I have cut off the emotion connection. Before that kind of food would have screamed at me from the table “eat me, eat me” but no more, because it all lies in my mind. Now it is just food that I dont eat, I know how it tastes but I have no craving to eat it, because taste is taste, food is food, no more no less. I simply dont feel its worth it to eat this food. To ruin my success, my goals and happiness just to taste some certain flavor. I would rather taste the healthy food and keep on feeling so darn good. I have heard criticism towards this method of mine. That food, such as chocolate, really made us feel good through chemicals it triggered in the brain and therefore this method wouldnt work. I know that food can have an effect on our body, that they can release chemicals that make us feel good. But if that was the whole issue why arent everyone overweight? Why doesnt everybody have a food addiction? The answer is that when you are addicted to food then you are in the same situation as a drunk. You have linked your food to a range of emotions and gratifications; you subconsciously think that certain food will make you happy, even when it is in fact making you fall into a misery. Your emotions that you link with certain food when you eat it to feel emotionally better, condition you to feel that by eating this certain food is the same as feeling good. As the drunk you just cant have one bite of that candy, you have to have the whole box and some more, because your craving is to feel better. As certain food, alcohol has huge effect on the chemicals in the brain, but not everyone becomes addicted to it, the same way as some people can handle eating in moderation, and never have any problem with their weight, probably because they havent been eating (or drinking in that matter) to feel emotionally better. To fight against all my addictions I have used this method and have found it extremely helpful, and in fact I think it is the essence of my success. When I had cut out the links that alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and food had to my own emotions, it got so much easier to control them. It is a fact that it is so much easier to deal with facts then your own emotions. Your emotions can make you do so many stupid things because it is so hard to ignore them. They are the essence of your soul and heart, so we all tend to fall for their reasonings, even when it means the loss of everything we have achieved. When you set your emotions aside, then the only thing left is reasoning, and it isnt hard at all, when the consequences are obviously misery and failure, to deny yourself of that ice cream cone, or whatever food you deny yourself from having. A Hypnothrapist’s Casebook, Hypnotherapy For Healing.

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Brian D. Green These articles were first published as a column in “L.A. Health Magazine under the title, A Hypnotherapists Casebook. A Hypnotherapists Casebook. No 1. Hypnotherapy for Healing. A little over ten years ago I was between jobs. I had been working in Psychiatric Hospitals and other institutions, as an Admissions Counselor, Chemical Dependency Counselor, Case manager and Discharge Planner. I was attending some college courses, hoping eventually to obtain a Psychology degree, when a friend of mine suggested, “Why don’t you study Hypnotism, you could help people stop smoking and make some money.” It seemed like a good idea, so I ended up attending classes at the world renowned Gil Boyne Hypnosis Institute, in Glendale. As soon as I saw on the first video what Mr. Boyne was able to achieve with hypnosis I exclaimed to him, “You are getting people to give you information in a few minutes that would take six months to a year in therapy, because consciously they don’t know these things!” I knew I had encountered something I had always wanted, a means to make my work as a counselor more effective and economical in terms of both time and money. As yet I was not aware of the possible depth, speed and range of change available through hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I have since discovered that hypnotherapy can be divided into two aspects. 1). “Putting in the good stuff,” or suggestion therapy. To most people this is the most familiar, planting suggestions in a clients mind of a beneficial nature, such as, “you will act on the powerful desire you discover today to stop smoking for good.” etc., while a person is in a hypnotic trance. The other aspect could be described as, 2). taking out the bad stuff,” by altering or removing historical causations of difficulties. This trance-pires by entering the subconscious mind, the other seven eighths of our mind we have little awareness of, and relieving difficulties in hypnotic trance. Of course, both aspects may well be implemented concurrently, (at least by me), with any client. The effectiveness can be astonishing. One client returned after the first session and stated. ” I stopped drinking coffee, watching soap operas, and have emerged from a low grade depression of many years duration.” In addition, this man had a thyroid condition called “Bright’s Disease,” which caused his eyes to be permanently popped out, so he looked angry or scared all the time. It was now only barely visible around one eye. In addition, three quarters of the anxiety, regarding supervisory duties at work, which initiated his visit, had vanished. Though hypnotherapy is not always so dramatically effective as this, I inform prospective clients that eighty percent of those I work with usually see major positive changes within four sessions. I have seen client’s blood pressure go down from regular use of one of my self hypnosis tapes. Persons have obtained rapid healing with little pain from invasive medical procedures and surgeries. Young persons, (around fourteen to twenty one years,) if willing, can often gain astonishing progress, due to being so open, and mentally fluid. My process produces all kinds of general positive change, then I also work on the specifics. I help a person gain access to inner resources and increased self-esteem, while removing blocks that are keeping them stuck, so they can resume personal growth without me. Naturally, the amount of time and work necessary to obtain relief from any difficulty is related to its prior nature, duration, intensity and severity, and the available inner and outer resources. What kind of problems is hypnotherapy useful for? Traditionally it has been successful, with habit control, smoking, weight, bedwetting, nail biting, stuttering, and so forth. Also to increase self confidence, motivation, memory, concentration, creativity, productivity and self esteem. For reducing anxiety, releasing, fears, phobias, headaches and nightmares. Sexual problems of both sexes may be amenable to hypnotic methods. The rapid release of grief is often very easy to facilitate, and unresolved grief from past losses is a significant contributor to more difficulties than is generally known. I have found that even the death of a beloved animal can leave a person in a state of frozen mourning. I use Hypnosis as an adjunct to treating drug and alcohol problems.. I receive referrals from Psychiatrists, Doctors, Psychotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths and Alternative/ Complementary Medicine practitioners, to assist clients who may be stuck in some way, or have a problem, such as mental and physical tension, that the referring party does not treat. Correction of many obstinate physical/mental/emotional situations can be initiated. In fact, the holistic hypnotherapeutic process is as unlimited as the boundless Shaman’s Imagination of the practitioner, and to the extent that he can utilize his Wizard Words to conjure up Magical Image Processes that heal, as becomes a Charm-ing Mage. Hypnosis then works in the I of the mind, as an Alchemical Philosopher’s Stone, trance-muting the unknown into the golden healing known. Now I will close with the words of Tiny Tim, from a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, “God bless us all, each and every one.” Till the next time, Brian. A Hypnotherapist’s Casebook. No 2. Releasing Past Grief. One of the most useful aspects of hypnosis is that in trance, a person’s emotional defenses are softened or lowered. This allows for the release of previously submerged and trapped emotions. A heightened awareness of thoughts and feelings also trance-pires. This combination allows the possibility of resolution of difficulties following the rapid location of their deeper source. This is especially relevant for the release of blocked or frozen grief. A significant number of my clients suffer from this as a major component of their difficulties. It contributes to poor concentration, irritability, feeling “down”, physical and psycho-somatic problems, and accentuates any other problem a person might have. This may be despite a person’s belief that they mourned the loss. Over many years with many clients, when probed in a relaxed trance state, only two had no residual pain regarding a major loss. For most, rapidly obtaining complete relief is a relatively simple matter. After the release, remarks such as, “I never knew that was there.. still bothering me so much,” etc. are made. One female, having dinner with a friend after a session, was told, “The look of pain that was always in your eyes has gone.” This was after the release of grief entangled with guilt, as is often the case, subsequent to an abortion. Grief is not restricted to the death of a loved one or family member. Miscarriages as well as abortions. The loss of a beloved pet animal can be agonizing, especially for those who have fewer deep connections to other human animals. The end of a long term relationship is often like a death. As an addictions professional, I am aware that saying goodbye and mourning the loss of the “old friend” that could always be “depended on”, whether it be alcohol, cigarettes, or whatever, is a sometimes a necessary step along the road to abstinence. To close, I will detail these simple easy cases where the release was immediate and complete. The first was a lady who had lost a baby due to a miscarriage a year before she came to see me. After assisting her to enter a relaxed state I began, “You mentioned the loss of your baby..” At these words, her head went back, and a wordless howl of agony emerged, on, and on, and on.. finished at last.. no words.. that was it, all of it. While on vacation, a man’s long term pet, his dog, had died. Somebody remarked, “You have to take them on a last walk before they die,” and he had become deeply guilt stricken, feeling he had failed his old pal. In trance, I pointed out to him that he had taken the dog for his last walk, before he departed on vacation. The guilt resolved, and further grieving laid his canine friend to rest. A young woman had had an emotional breakdown after rejecting her partner, for being a womanizer with no interest in changing. She was hardly eating or sleeping, barely living and working like a zombie. Coming out of the first trance, after grief release she said, “I’m hungry!” Returning for the second session she said, “When he calls me on the phone, instead of feeling so desperately awful, I see myself saying goodbye to him as I visualized in trance, and I’m O.K.” Aligning her head and heart while releasing the tears of grief was all it took. Because she had no other problems to complicate matters, only one session was needed to initiate her recovery process. Though not always this simple, healing is always a possibility. Till the next time, Brian. A Hypnotherapists Casebook No. 3. Working With Young People. Hypnotherapy with young persons, from the ages of approximately 13 to 21 years old, can often produce extraordinarily powerful results. One reason is that their minds are so open and flexible, that the process of change is easily assimilated into their own current growth and development. In addition, their personality and self esteem are still being formed by incorporating the “messages” conveyed by the words and behavior of family, authority figures and peers. Positive suggestions absorbed in trance give them the necessary emotional support and nurturing they need. The common antecedent to many problems, is parental conflict, especially separation and divorce. Adults usually have little idea how these events devastate a child’s sense of security. A rapid drop in academic levels, or sudden negative behavioral changes, (if not the result of alcohol/drug problems, another common cause), frequently indicates a problem at home. Remarriage often brings on or further aggravates difficulties. Much of the time the child is classed as either mad or bad, when in fact they are caught in emotional traps. Because young people are very in touch with their situations and emotions, especially in trance, it is often quite a simple process to assist them obtain relief. Many require no more than four or five sessions, of two hours plus, for virtual elimination of their troubles. Simultaneous initiation of ongoing emotional improvement processes adds many more benefits. Realizing that a person’s life may be radically improved for fifty or more years is personally very rewarding to me. Also, my own adolescence was so disastrous, agonizing and bereft, that I have a deep compassion and understanding of troubled teenagers, and love to provide them with the assistance I never knew I needed, and of course did not get. Serious problems such as trichonomania, (compulsively pulling out of hair and eyelashes), obsessive hand washing, night terrors, and so forth, have also yielded to my hypnotic ministrations. I have helped a succession of young males reverse declining grades and other unacceptable behavior at school, by resolving resentment regarding a stepfather, especially if the stepfather is “mistreating” a mother the son is very close to. Unfortunately, when a young person gets poor grades, not knowing this is the result of emotional stress, they conclude they are stupid and may begin to regard themselves as a failure. In fact, I have retroactively dealt with these issues in adults, still carrying scars to their self esteem from precisely this sequence. Till the next time. Toothpaste Ingredients and Alternatives

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Carla Donnelly Most of us desire to have a charming smile and sparkling teeth. That is why we sometimes try almost all brands and all kinds of toothpaste just to know which one will give us the best results. There is actually no harm in doing that. However, we must be aware that this product that we use everyday may cause harm to our body as well. One of the main ingredients of toothpaste is fluoride. However, some toothpastes contain huge amounts of this chemical. Excessive fluoride inside our system can cause several problems like chronic fatigue, arthritis, rheumatism, constipation, and maybe cancer. According to the World Health Organization and the US Environmental Protection Agency, fluoride is considered to be an unclassifiable carcinogen. There are also other chemicals found in toothpastes that are, sometimes, not even listed in the tube. Chemicals in toothpaste, when we use them, get absorbed by our teeth and gums. And since there are times that we swallow toothpaste along with our saliva, these chemicals reach some parts of our gastro intestinal tract as well. These chemicals can cause stiffness in the joints and muscles . Our nerves can also be affected which can cause spasms and pain. Some toothpastes claim to have formula against sensitive teeth to prevent pain in the gums and teeth. The reason why these can prevent the pain is the manufacturers include pain killers in these toothpastes. As people use them everyday, the nerves in the mouth slowly are affected. Regular ingestion of these harmful chemicals from toothpastes can also cause our breathing to be shallow. Our heart beat may increase Some may get muscle cramps in different body parts. And since it affects the blood and the heart, there is a possibility of a heart issue in the future. There are some toothpaste that also prevent gum bleeding. This is possible because of blood-clotting chemicals that are put into these products. However, these agents not only can stop the bleeding in gums, but can also develop blood clots which can lead to strokes and heart attacks. One kind of chemical that was found in some toothpaste is the sodium laurel sulfate or the SLS. This chemical is common in shampoos as well. It can cause skin inflammation and separation of the layers, as stated in the Journal of the American College of Toxicology in 1983. SLS can also lead to permanent eye impairment according to Dr. Keith Green of the Medical College of Georgia. Though these effects may not be seen right away, it is the long-term effect of these chemicals in our body that is the concern. And the fact that these products are part of our daily lives, we may be at a huge risk to these side effects without knowing it. Our vanity can cause us to be involved in toothbrushing several times a day. We need to learn to explore and find alternatives and taking responsibility for our futures. Be sure to check the label and start finding something that can help your oral hygiene without side effects. The ECA Stack Guide

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Mansi Aggarwal The ECA stack is a popular drug combination, which is used as an energy booster and for weight loss. ECA is an acronym for ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin. Ephedrine is the main ingredient in the stack for both fat burning and energy enhancing. Although its very effective on its own, combining it with caffeine makes it even more so. How effective is it? When used properly and can greatly speed up the fat burning process and youll loose those unwanted pounds. But before you go out and buy ECA stack there are a few things you need to know about. Along with fat burning ephedrine will attempt to burn off your hard earned muscle as well. The best way of combating this fat loss is to supplement with protein throughout the day not just once or twice a day, as is usually the case. Ephedrine also acts as an appetite suppressant. How this works is not fully understood, but this aids in weight loss also. Unfortunately, these effects only last for a couple of weeks if the stack isnt cycled because the body become tolerant of ephedrine to some extent. Ephedrine acts to increase energy by acting on the brain to increase the release of nonadrenaline into the synapic cleft, and also works as a nonadrenaline reuptake inhibitordue to the shared action between the two terminals. In most cases the ECA stack is taken two or three times daily in a 1:10:10 or 1:10:15 ratio of ephedrine: caffeine: aspirin. These ratios vary across studies and across users, but in spite of the differences they seem to be effective. No more than 25mg of ephedrine, 200mg of caffeine and 325 mg of aspirin should be taken in a single dose and because ECA stack can contribute to insomnia it should not be taken past late afternoon. Although ephedrine and aspirin are not addictive caffeine is, and users can develop a tolerance to lowered adenosine levels and this can lead to withdrawal symptoms from adenosine sensitivity if caffeine use is stopped too quickly. It is also possible to develop a psychological addiction to ephedrine and aspirin. The most serious risk factor of the ECA stack is the effect ephedrine can have on a pre-existing heart condition. It has been linked to death in people with valve damage, cardiac hypertrophy, and other heart problems. Stimulants should not be taken by anyone with a heart condition. Evidence also exists that show that the long-term use of amphetamines can lead to heart damage, but this has not been shown for ephedrine use. The use of ephedrine and caffeine can also raise blood pressure, so users who already have hypertension need to be careful that the stack doesnt raise their blood pressure to dangerous levels especially during exercise. The good thing is that the presence of aspirin in the stack does thin the blood and counteracts this partially. Insomnia, dry mouth irritability, stress, headache, dizziness, irregular heartbeat and increased thirst are some of the other side effects of the ECA stack. Ephedrine has been linked to death causing many countries to outlaw or control it. The risk of ephedrine has caused many people to try ephedrine free stack formulas. There is no proof that any of these formulas are effective, but a great deal of evidence exists to support the effectiveness of the ECA stack, but with risks. Wireless Service Providers

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Josh_Riverside]Josh Riverside Wireless service providers are also called wireless carriers, mobile phone operators, or cellular companies. Simply put, their main function is to provide mobile phone services to subscribers. Wireless service providers need to obtain a license to be able to operate in a certain country. The license is used to acquire a radio spectrum. The radio spectrum varies depending on the types of services that the provider intends to offer. Usually, radio spectrum licenses can be bought through an auction. An emerging type of wireless service providers is called mobile virtual network operators (MVNO). They operate very much like regular service providers do. The main difference is that MVNO do not have a network of their own. They only lease a network from an existing wireless service provider. The first MVNO was launched in United Kingdom in 1999. The terms and conditions of the MVNOs with the regular wireless service provider vary depending on the contract they have agreed upon. But in general, MVNOs still reserve the right to modify their own tariff structures. While they may not own their own wireless infrastructure, some MVNOs have a home location that enables them to use the services of several cellular companies. Traditional wireless service providers agree to partner with MVNOs for three major reasons. First, MVNOs may help them reach a larger market. Not all traditional cell companies are capable of reaching out to all segments of the market. Through MVNOs, they can expand their market. Second, MVNOs may also help cell companies to better utilize their networks by generating larger economies. This way, they can better promote new services such as 3G. Lastly, MVNOs can be helpful in reaching customers with highly-specialized needs. Today, there are about 200 MVNOs worldwide. These can be found in different countries such as the Netherlands, Finland, Australia, and Belgium. In other countries like France and Austria, MVNOs are also beginning to emerge. Those countries that already have several MVNOs can expect lower growth in terms of new MVNOs because the market in such places has already become highly saturated.
